Finnich gorge and endrick falls

I don't always have to journey a million miles away for some stunning locations and these are two of my faves. Finnich gorge is a natural gorge near Killearn ( about an hours drive from hame ) carved out by the melting of glaciers at the end of the last ice age in Scotland. It's a bit treacherous to get down there but is well worth the nervous slide down the old victorian access steps to reach. The reddish brown water of the river is towered over on both sides by beautifully sculpted sandstone that compliments the hues of rich green mosses and lichens that blanket the sides. I also made the pilgramage to the beautiful Endrick falls just a 15 min drive up the Carron valley from Killearn to capture the stunning view of Fintry and beyond. Good day. ;)

Defeat and consolation..

Headed up the 'Cobbler' (Ben Arthur) Tuesday past intent on conquering this mighty rock that looks over Loch Long and Arrochar. I had previously attempted the climb last year and was defeated by the layer of cold mist that oft decends down from high and alas was once again beaten by similar conditions with the addition of a freezing gale force wind that had me shivering behind one of the sizeable boulders that litter the ascent.I did however resolve to make the journey to a great spot at Gartocharn I had discovered online. There is a single hill in the middle of the area that commands a simply breathtaking vista. I came away feeling not so disconsolent after managing these two shots...

Ben A'an

Monday, first time hike up to the summit of Ben A'an, weather was great on the way up, good light but very hazy. Absolutely knackered by the time I got up to the peak but well worth the slog, rewarded with stunning views over Loch Katrine, Ben Venue and the Trossachs. It started to cloud up towards sun-down and didn't light up the surrounding hills they way I was hoping but managed to get a few shots I was pleased with. Need to definately make the effort to get up to higher ground more in the future! CLICK THE PIC TO SEE THE REST.....
